The Clash’s “LONDON CALLING” and David Bowie’s “THE JEAN GENIE” !!!?
It’s well-known that most if not all Rock critics view David Bowie as one of the first of PROTO-PUNK artists at least Proto-Punk is under Bowie’s unlimited genres . Now , I have a question to fans and experts of “Bowie” and “The Clash” music :
Recently , I have listened to the song “The Jean Genie” by Bowie and I don’t know if it’s me or it’s a solid reality that this song seems to have so much in common with “The Clash’s London Calling” at least the instrumental section , so ((Is this an example of Bowie’s early Punkish sound and do you think that The Clash are somehow inspired by this song ??))
I think the similarity you’re hearing is the cross-genreness of both artists. “The Jean Genie” sounds like a fusion of early RnB and Folk mixed with early Punk or Glam. While London Calling, like much of the Clash’s work is a mixture of Punk and Reggae.
